Founded in 1961 through the merger of two major canneries in the Algarve region, Cofaco quickly became a leader in Portugal’s fish canning industry. In the 1960s, the company moved its operations to the Azores — a pristine Atlantic archipelago that offered ideal conditions for sustainable tuna fishing and processing.

Today, Cofaco’s production hub is located on São Miguel Island, where over 300 skilled professionals produce more than 50 million cans annually, combining modern food safety standards with time-honored methods.
